Bear + Poppy was founded by Chef Kate in 2013.

After attending The Natural Gourmet Institute in New York City in 2010, kate moved back to oakland to create the menu and run the kitchen as head chef for a 40 seat cafe in berkeley.

After heading back to NYC (in a car full of cooking equipment and one giant dog) Bear + Poppy took shape in a small but mighty West Village apartment. The name is also part mission statement - honoring California and it’s bounty. The Grizzly bear is the official state animal of California and the Poppy it’s official state flower. From this idea grew a business catering to offices (5-100 people) across the city (read: lots of soup in back of taxi cab adventures) as well as smaller clients looking for unique party ideas, fresh menus and organizational details to pull off each event.

in 2014 bear + poppy made it’s way back home to california (yep, one more drive across the country with chefs knives and cuisinarts and giant dog) and has continued to flourish in bringing thoughtful, flavorful and healthy food to co-workers, friends, families and individuals.
